I got to know Thomas Zielinski in my Creative Google Ads talk at betahaus Hamburg and took his projects directly into my heart when we had lunch together.
His creative projects distinguish him in his diversity. With the blog “Get Wet Soon” he reaches over 7000 readers per month and 10,000 podcast subscribers all about surfing and water sports.
But not only that, Thomas gives yoga classes on his yoga surf retreats all over the world and writes content for big companies.
I was immediately interested in how such a creative person lives and how he sees the importance of creativity in our society. Can artificial intelligence already be creative and will it replace us in future?
It was interesting to hear from him how he started to live a diverse and creative life. The escape from an agency to life in morocco where he started his blog “get wet soon”. The reason was not to gain a lot of followers, he was more motivated to meet creative people like photographers and surfers. He started with an instagram channel, where the capacity for a story was limited.
Also Thomas thinks that all humans can be creative and to think, for example, as an economist about not being creative is just an excuse.
But how important is creativity in our society and how creative is the AI? Thomas’s opinion is that we can and should use our creative brain for good for example in politics or to change our environment in case of sustainability.
Regarding creativity and AI, he said that the machine can only be as intelligent as the human who operated it and feeds it with information. Also the emotional and personal part in art, where we get to know the creator him/herself with whom we identify ourselves, would be missed when machines become creatives.
